Your sunscreen forms an integral part of your skin care routine, protecting you against UV radiation and thereby, free radical induced damage. A good sunscreen should be:
- Broad spectrum coverage – What does this really mean? Well it signifies that your screen allows coverage in all parts of the UV spectrum actually reaching the earth’s surface, read UVA and UVB. The UVA part of the spectrum is one which results in immunosuppression and causation of DNA defects and cancers, whereas UVB is the one resulting in sunburns and pigmentation. Therefore, its pertinent that your sunscreen provides you protection against both parts of the spectrum. Look for a sunscreen with a minimal SPF of 30 (measuring protection against the UVB) and a PA +++ sign or UVA label (measuring protection against the UVA part of the spectrum). Moreover, now there is focus on the visible light part of the electromagnetic spectrum which is responsible for effects of aging on your skin. A sunscreen providing coverage against UVA, UVB and visible light is most desirable. Look for agents such as Tiosorb S/M, Uvinul A plus, Avobenzone, Zno and / or Titanim dioxide. Further, if your sunscreen has an advantage of providing moisturization or barrier restoration it’s like a cherry on the cake. Ceramides and sodium hyaluronate are some agents providing this coverage.
- Substantivity or Water resistant – A “water resistant” sunscreen is one which allows for 2 sequential immersions in water of 20 min each so that works out to 40 min and retains its SPF, while a “very water resistant” sunscreen is one which allows for 4 such sequential immersions of 20 min each in water and still retains its SPF. So, on days when you’re out for a swim, on the beach, out for a run etc. it’s a good idea to re-apply your sunscreen for maximal benefit.
- Good sensory feel and touch – a single sunscreen may suit your mum / friend but may not suit you. All skin types are different, and hence the feel and touch of the sunscreen that you use may resonate with one person and not another. Ideally look for sunscreens, which are paraben free, devoid of PABA, not too fragrant and don’t have an overload of other agents.
Consult your dermatologist for the right sunscreen for your skin and particularly if you have skin conditions aggravated by the sun.
Why The FaceCraft Project ?
The thought and vision behind the Facecraft story began in 2020, which was stemmed by the lack of quality formulations for skin care in the Indian market. The thought was the brainchild of Dr Gargi Kandhari, MDS who tried and tested many products on her sensitive skin only to be disappointed. Her love and desire to find great products that suited her skin led to the “thought” which eventually actualised with ideas and formulations thought out by Dr Rajat Kandhari (MD Dermatology), and hence began the quest for products which are clean, effective, and with reproducible results.
Dr Rajat Kandhari, an award winning dermatologist and aesthetic physician with keen interest in formulations and facial aesthetics comes from a lineage of dermatologists who have been serving patients for over 60 years and after an extensive clinical survey, led us to a thorough understanding of the needs of the Indian skin and the science behind each of our products. Dr Rajat believes the face to be an artist’s palette and each skin type varies and requires the right treatment and care.
Our products are clean, innovative with revolutionary delivery systems and made with love and care to actually deliver in order to make a visible difference to your beautiful skin.

- Each of our products backs its claims with an advantage to balance other aspects of the skin be it barrier restoration or attaining adequate hydration with an exfoliator to make it easy and tolerable to use and more than anything a pleasurable experience.
- Each product is backed by science and has advise on “How to use” and “when not to use”
- Made with the thought that the products should be able to provide you with a complete basic everyday glow regime without taking any drastic or invasive steps – Of course each skin differs and there may come a time that other measures maybe combined to give optimal outcomes.
As skin ages, the intrinsic structural changes that are a natural consequence of passing time are inevitably followed by subsequent physiological changes that affect the skin's ability to function as the interface between internal and external environments. Also certain functional impairments (although a predictable consequence of intrinsic structural changes) have the potential to cause significant morbidity in the elderly patient and may be exacerbated by extrinsic factors like photo damage.
